In this month's New Agriculturist...

03/1

New Year is a time for looking forward - and back - and this month we invite you to email us with your comments about New Agriculturist. We know from our web statistics that, over the last five years, New Agriculturist has developed a large, widespread and loyal readership so we trust that you continue to find the content, style and format useful and interesting. Nevertheless, any comments or suggestions, however brief, would be welcomed. And, even if you wish New Agriculturist to remain unchanged, please get in touch by email to let us know. We shall then have a balanced response to guide us for future editions.

In this first edition of 2003, we offer information and comment on a panorama of farming scenes, from mountains, lakes, deserts and cities. Within these varied landscapes, the needs of farmers, their crops and their livestock are central. Indeed, Points of View, highlights the need to take a more integrated approach, especially to agricultural research, so that a better account is taken in future of the natural environment within which farmers must work and the practical realities that they face. No doubt 'sustainability', whatever that may mean in practice, will continue to be a goal. For an interesting and at times amusing discussion see In Print: The principles of sustainability. As usual, we bring you a personal Perspective, a selection of News items, a Country Profile (Argentina), and a picture feature that illustrates how looking back, and looking forward, can bring prosperity. And greater prosperity and happiness is what we wish all readers of New Agriculturist in 2003.
